Environmental Initiatives

Priorities include:

• Collaborative approaches that offer nature-based and outdoor learning experiences for youth and community members to inspire care and responsibility for the environment. For example, land trusts or other community organizations may partner with schools, or offer their own site-based programming on science, nature or climate change.  

• Improving access to safe, inclusive spaces that foster appreciation for nature, science and the social and cultural dimensions of land and place.   

• Supporting efforts that benefit under-represented groups and/or underserved rural communities. 

Priorities include:

• Advancing partnerships, tools and relationships for conservation that emphasize equity and inclusion.  Trail access projects can be considered.   

• Improving land conservation for biodiversity protection and access to lands and waters for recreation, education and restoration. Organizations requesting funding for land acquisition should include a complete funding plan for the project.  

• Expanded efforts to conserve culturally significant lands for Wabanaki lifeways and culture. 

Priorities include:

• Promoting climate change resilience efforts through land and watershed conservation. 

• Support of programs and partnerships that engage community members in stewardship, restoration and education.  

Priorities include:

• Using science, policy and community engagement to address climate change impacts on natural resources and ecosystems 

• Promoting water quality, habitat improvement and restoration efforts including coastal and inland watersheds and aquatic resources
